My Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

There might be some swear words in this post, people. If you don't think you can handle it, you might want to read something else.

Let's just start at the beginning. Saturday night, my kitchen sink fell out. I shit you not - it fell out of the counter. Here it is:

So, that pretty much sucks.

And this morning, I set off to the plumbing supply store to find and price a new sink. The bad news is that the only sink that will fit my countertop cut-out is the exact fucking sink that fell out and I hated that sink. The worse news is that the only color that I might consider for the sink is a two week special order. Therefore, I am possibly without a kitchen sink for at least two weeks.

I left the plumbing supply store to head home and put the babies to bed for a nap. And promptly rear-ended another car. Thank God for Goldfish and raisins - they kept the babies occupied for about an hour while we dealt with the post-collision fallout. No one hurt. Other car was barely scratched. My car has a big fat fucking dent in the front bumper. Here it is:

Anyway, I got a ticket for inattentive driving, which - yea, that's about right. And I got into my car to head out and. Nothing. Yep, my battery was dead. Thirty minutes of the hazards and the radio killed the battery. The cop called another patrol car for a "jump pack" which didn't work. Then they radioed for jumper cables and a tow truck showed up and jump started my car for free. They were all very, very nice.

I even emailed the police chief when I got home to tell him about his nice officers. Changing my official "I hate the Leawood cops" position of my teenage years, I now officially love the Leawood police department.

Except for that ticket.

M scored her first goal today! And I missed it. J and M headed over to the fields while I finished feeding the boys lunch. Then I loaded the 3 of them up in the car to go to the game. As I got into the car, I got a text from J. "She scored." DAMNIT! I can't believe I missed it.

Softball and baseball start this week. Baseball practice on Monday night, gymnastics on Monday late afternoon, CCD on Tuesday, acting on Thursday, dance on Friday, baseball practice again on Saturday, soccer make-up game on Saturday, soccer game on Sunday and softball practice on Sunday. Holy crap.

Found these Chucks in a bin of G's old summer clothes. Aren't they darling? It took every ounce of strength I had to keep from nibbling on H's teensy little feet in them. Scrumptious.

He's just delicious. Dontcha want to eat him up with a spoon?!

Meanwhile, across the kitchen...C's repressed Southern heritage comes out. Apparently, now that we've broken out the shorts - he's ready for iced tea.

This is just about how every day goes...

G: I just want a bug friend.
M: I don't like bugs. I want to kill them. All of them.
G: You can't do that. They're part of nature.
M: Nuh-uh.
G: Uh-huh.
M: Nuh-uh.
G: Uh-huh.
M: Nuh-uh.
G: Uh-huh.
M: Nuh-uh.
M: Mom, can I have a snack?

I've Created a Monster

My oldest kids never had a security blanket, a "blankie", a "woobie." They did (and still do) sleep with a stuffed animal/blanket - "Puppy" and "Lambie". We're very creative namers that way. If you inspect a few photos on this blog, you're apt to spot at least one of the two sad, worn-out little friends.

Anyway, the babies each have stuffed animal/blanket combos that are in their cribs. They both tend to ignore these little friends - a giraffe and a monkey. But both are always excited to have their blankets at the end of the day. They grip the blankets tightly and rub them over their faces. And lately, C has been finding ways to sneak his blanket out of bed. I'm happy that he has a security object because I think my older kids have always been good sleepers, even away from home, if they have their animal. But I'm having a hard time with the fact that it's a "blankie." He's awfully cute though.

C and said blankie. In the living room. Blankie should be in his crib. He's sneaky that way.

I took this shot just so that you could get some of the effect of his completely unsnapped outfit. It had kind of an assless chaps vibe.

Oh, that face. I.Cannot.Resist.You.

And a fashion shot of M for good measure. I told her it was a bit chilly for a sundress. This was the result of my comment.

Busy, Busier than Usual

I haven't been posting here very often lately. It's not because my kids aren't funny anymore, I swear. They're still super funny. I've just been horribly busy. About a month ago, I decided to try freelance web content and blog writing to make a little extra money. I got my first paying job almost immediately - it is regular posting for a celebrity divorce blog (which is tied to a more traditional family law website). I write about entertainer, athlete and politician domestic problems and then explain the legal issues a little. Nothing too deep, I promise.

Based largely upon my writing here on this blog, I then got a job writing content for a not-yet-launched pregnancy and newborn website. I'm in the midst of 60 articles and a potential e-book for them. Today, I'm finishing up four articles regarding surveillance laws for a hidden camera internet store. And, randomly, I'm also working on a page summary of a trial transcript for an attorney in California.

So, strangely, my 2008 tax return may list my occupation as self-employed writer instead of attorney or homemaker. Who woulda thunk it?! (Speaking of taxes, I need to get ours in the mail today!!)

To my friends, family and other random readers - I will try to post more often here. I promise.

Memphis Never Had a Chance...

M made this sign before the game tonight. Clearly, the Jayhawks had some major mojo on their side. Thanks M! Yay KU!!!!!!!
